When we were at Wash Park, we ran into some friends from obedience training! Here is Nell [Pug & Chinese-crested mix] and Roxy [Corgi mix]. Yes, Roxie & Roxy the corgis, it was confusing at times… :)
So here’s how we’d rate the parks we’ve visited so far:
City Parks:
1) Commons Park - Beautiful park with a nice walking trail. Homeless people are here early in the morning but they won’t bother you (sleeping under pine trees).
2) Confluence Park - Awesome spot right along the Cherry Creek Trail and Platte River. Great to go here to cool down on a hot day!
3) Cheeseman Park - Lots of people with mellow dogs, lots of people biking or roller blading. Seems like a very mellow, lovely park.
4) City Park - I haven’t visited here yet, but Erin & Alex went to “Jazz in the Park,” and seemed to have a nice time.
5) Sunken Gardens - Can be a little buggy and the grass can sometimes be a little tall [ankle height] but this has a beautiful garden and a HUGE open field. It’s a great spot to play fetch.
6) Riverfront Park - Is this even a park? It’s like a lawn in the middle of the city. No benches, a couple trees, plenty of space. Good for the humans to play frisbee or something.
7) Washington Park - Lots of bugs and lots of litter. Nothing here you couldn’t get somewhere else. Some people rented paddle boats but… I’m a dog, I can’t use those.
So here’s how we’d rate the parks we’ve visited so far:
Hiking:
1) Estes Park - Amazing views but not for those with fears of heights.
2) Red Rocks - Very easy trail with some beautiful scenery. Good to take people to who aren’t from the area (the trail is easy enough that altitude shouldn’t leave them terribly breathless).
(tune in tomorrow for our review of general, city parks.)
So to review Washington Park, I’d say it’s not our favorite. (Not just because of the ticket.) There were a LOT of bugs because of the lake. It also was really dirty with trash all along the walking trails. Lastly, there was a lot of goose poop in the grass, which got my paws dirty and green. So… Commons Park still wins by a landslide!
